1 injured in fiery crash Saturday in Colorado Springs, police say

Colorado Springs police are investigating a two-vehicle crash that seriously injured a motorist and left one of the cars engulfed in flames on Saturday, law enforcement officials said.

Officers responded to a 10:50 p.m. call about a crash near East Woodmen Road and Banning Lewis Parkway. The caller told police dispatch that one of the involved vehicles was on fire.

The vehicle was still burning when officers arrived at the scene, police said. The two occupants of the burning vehicle were moved to safety by “citizens who stopped and helped,” according to an online blotter entry. A passenger was taken to a nearby hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the second vehicle abandoned the car and fled on foot before law enforcement arrived, officials said. Speed and alcohol are believed to be contributing factors.
