Colorado College hockey earned two wins on the weekend and three spots in the nation’s top-20 standings on Monday. 

Following a sweep of Northern Michigan, the Tigers (5-1) enter a bye week ranked 16th in the country per the USCHO poll released on Monday. CC also moved up three spots in the USA Hockey poll from 20th to 17th. 

Against the Wildcats in Marquette, Mich., CC overcame a 43-save effort from Northern Michigan rookie goalie Oliver Auyeung-Ashton to win 2-1 in overtime on Friday. The following night, CC cruised to a 5-2 victory thanks in part to good play from the team’s top scorers in sophomore center Owen Beckner, junior center Klavs Veinbergs and junior right wing Bret Link. The win marked the fourth straight for the Tigers. 

Elsewhere in the National Collegiate Hockey Conference, CC rival Denver fell from fifth to seventh following a series split at Lindenwood. Defending league and national champion Western Michigan remained in second after a sweep at the University of Massachusetts Lowell. North Dakota stayed in eighth after a home split against 12th-ranked Minnesota. And Arizona State fell out of the top 20 from 15th after being swept at Augustana, which is the highest team receiving votes. 

But as one NCHC team left the top 20, another joined as Minnesota Duluth jumped into 18th after sweeping Bemidji State in a home-and-home series. Other NCHC teams receiving votes include the Sun Devils, Miami of Ohio, and St. Cloud State.

The Tigers return to action hosting Omaha Oct. 31 and Nov. 1 for their conference opener.
