Colorado Springs announced the date for a neighborhood listening meeting with residents affected by the recent closure of Meadows Park Community Center.

The “listening and visioning session” will take place at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 22 at the former community center located south of downtown Colorado Springs. Mayor Yemi Mobolade and City Councilmembers Kimberly Gold and Nancy Henjum will be the officials in attendance.

Meadows Park Community Center was closed by the city last Friday as part of the $31 million in budget reductions Mobolade announced in September to meet a tighter budget for 2026. Closing the center provided $775,000 in savings for the Parks, Recreation & Cultural Services Department while seven staff members lost their jobs.

The community center building is still owned by Colorado Springs, and city staff have said they will begin exploring the next use of the building. The neighborhood meeting next week is a step in that process.

“It’s designed to show our residents we are looking for ways to keep the space activated and give them a space to speak up, because in many ways, they weren’t part of the decision-making process,” Gold said.

Colorado Springs has also posted a survey through the city website, asking how residents used Meadows Park over the years and what the most beneficial use of the space would be in the future.
