The winner of the No. 1 singles quarterfinals match between The Colorado Springs School’s Leopold Laird and George Washington’s Andrew Rettig was not updated by press time. We will update this story when results are available.

While other Pikes Peak region athletes struggled to find victories Thursday, Advait Jadhav found two.

The Pine Creek freshman and No. 2 singles player won in the first round and quarterfinals to advance to Friday’s 9 a.m. semifinals round of the 5A state boys tennis tournament at Denver City Park.

In the first round, Jadhav faced Mountain Vista’s Josh Hoefs and earned a 7-6, 6-0 win in the tournament’s opening matchups. Then, in the quarterfinals, the Eagles player faced fellow freshman Ajay Chandran from Monarch. Jadhav defeated Chandran 2-6, 6-4, 6-4 to earn his first three-set victory this season and clinched a semifinals berth.

Jadhav will play Grandview’s Kaahan Wani in the semifinals in their first meeting this season. Jadhav is the lone freshman remaining in the 5A singles bracket and, should Jadhav secure a victory against Wani, it would give the Eagles two consecutive seasons with a freshman in the title round.

Braylon Desquitado, who accomplished the feat last season for the Eagles, lost in the quarterfinals and dropped to the consolation bracket. Jadhav is the last area 5A player remaining as Desquitado was the only other competitor to earn a first-round win.

In 4A, The Colorado Springs School’s Leopold Laird (No. 1 singles), Air Academy’s Nathan Ohl (No. 2 singles), and Coronado’s Joshua Curtiss, Lewis-Palmer’s Layne Berger and Palmer Ridge’s Wilson Mancini (No. 3 singles) each won in the first round. But Curtiss, Berger and Mancini lost their quarterfinals matches and dropped to the consolation bracket. Discovery Canyon No. 4 doubles duo Elijah Baty and Carter Coffey also won in the first round but lost their quarterfinals contest.
