Driver airlifted to hospital after crash with semi on Highway 115

A driver who Colorado State Patrol said was trying to pass a semitrailer by using the right shoulder on Colorado 115 was airlifted to a hospital after a crash on Wednesday.

The 52-year-old driver of a Honda Civic attempted to pass the semitrailer, lost control, struck a concrete barrier, hit the semi, and was pushed off the highway down an embankment, State Patrol said.

The crash happened at around 1:50 p.m. about 15 miles south of Colorado Springs.

The driver of the semitrailer, a 60-year-old male, was not injured.
