New art award

Mountain Artists recently launched the Mountain Artists Community Art Grants program, offering mini grants to local high school students and adults seeking art instruction in the Pikes Peak Region.

Eligible applicants must be Teller County residents aged 14 or older, demonstrate an interest in exploring the arts, and commit to enrolling in art classes in the region. It is important to note that current members of Mountain Artists are not eligible to apply. For more information:

Woodland Park’s annual Halloween event will begin on Oct. 24

On Friday, Oct. 24, Woodland Park will kick off the spooky season with trick-or-treat at Memorial Park. Grown ghouls and goblins will enjoy an evening of fun at the Costume Cornhole event at UPCC. Saturday, the fun makes a splash at the Woodland Aquatic Center for the annual Pumpkin Dive. Three spook-tacular events, one weekend, one place – the City Above the Clouds.

Digital facelift

The Greater Woodland Park Chamber of Commerce has updated and refreshed its website.

Deadline extended

The deadline for applying for the Mayor’s Youth Advisory Council has been extended. Students now have until Oct. 28 at 5 p.m. to apply.

The council “empowers high school students to learn, serve and lead through civic engagement and public service,” an announcement on the city’s Facebook page says, “ensuring their voices help shape a thriving, connected community and guide the vision for Woodland Park’s future.”

Poacher sought

Colorado Parks and Wildlife is asking the public for assistance in solving a recent case of poaching that took place in Park County.

According to the wildlife agency, a cow moose was poached in the area of Deer Creek at some point between Sept. 28-30. This is in the area of Bailey.

Anyone with information about the poaching incident has been asked to call Operation Game Thief at 1-800-265-6648. Tipster can remain anonymous.

Wildfire robotics

The NoFloCo Fire Mitigation Posse will be holding its Wildfire Robotics Demonstration Days from Oct. 27-30, with the 30th as the Showcase Day.

“We will be hosting the team from Canada and many observers who are traveling to Teller County to learn about emerging innovations related to wildfire management as part of Conservation X Labs Fire Grand Challenge, for which both NoFloCo and Wildfire Robotics are finalists,” NoFloCo said in an email.
