While one project in Fox Run Regional Park has been paused, another will proceed as planned.

El Paso County will begin the renovation of Fox Run’s two ponds this fall.

The Fox Run Nature Center project, meanwhile, was paused in early September, which El Paso County called a strategic decision made in consideration of the current economic environment.

The ponds project will include grading and drainage improvements to the ponds and surrounding trails, installing new pond liners and replacing the existing gazebo with a new structure near the park’s amphitheater.

In addition, improvements will be made to the amphitheater to enhance the new gazebo and provide ADA access. The project also includes a new irrigation system and landscaping around the ponds, electrical improvements and construction of a new ADA-compliant concrete parking area and sidewalk connecting the restrooms, gazebo and amphitheater.

“This project is an important investment in one of our most popular parks,” El Paso County Parks Executive Director Todd Marts said. “These renovations will ensure that Fox Run Regional Park continues to be a safe, accessible, and beautiful space for residents and visitors for years to come.”

Construction is expected to begin in October and is expected to be completed by spring.

The nature center project began as an identified need in the 2013 El Paso County Master Plan, followed by a Northern Nature Center Feasibility Study in 2019, and the El Paso County Nature Center Interpretive Master Plan in 2020. The project is intended to expand recreational opportunities and enhance the quality of life for residents across El Paso County.

“While El Paso County remains in a strong financial position, we recognize the same is not true for many in our community,” Marts said. “We will continue to be responsible stewards of county resources while supporting the park and nature center experiences our residents value today.”
