Weekly publication in Manitou Springs reboots
After a three-month shutdown to assess financial problems and determine the future of Manitou Springs’ weekly, the Pikes Peak Bulletin, has received enough donations and a grant to continue publishing an online version.
A fundraiser for the nonprofit publication has brought in nearly $11,000 toward a $25,000 goal, its website shows.
The Pikes Peak Bulletin is ceasing weekly print issues, except for “periodic” publishing and special editions, according to a news release.
A special print edition containing a voter guide from the nonprofit organization, Citizens Project, has been mailed to 5,000 households primarily in southeast Colorado Springs, the release states.
The publication has been in flux for the past few years, after its former owner, the parent company of the now defunct Colorado Springs Independent, folded in late 2023.
Several Manitou Springs residents since have sought to save the local paper but have struggled with funding.
The rebooted version of the publication, which has roots extending back 107 years, includes a new board, a new publisher and the primarily digital model.
The plan also includes expanding coverage to include parts of Colorado Springs and focusing on being an alternative publication.
