How we make winter weather decisions | D-38 Leadership Update

Fall temperatures have arrived, and we know that means winter is just around the corner. As we begin to prepare for the first snowflakes, it’s a great time to remind our families, staff and community members how to stay informed about snow day closures and delays. If you ever wondered how we make our winter weather decisions, I invite you to check out our Inclement Weather Decision Guide. From our website’s homepage (lewispalmer.org), scroll halfway down and look for the snowflake “Weather Information” icon. You’ll learn about the factors we consider when deciding to close or delay. A lot of thought goes into our weather decisions as we balance the safety of students and staff with maximizing valuable classroom learning time. We thank you for your continued support on those days when we need to adjust due to weather.

As we settle into a new season, the district continues to move forward with strategic plans for our administrative campus. The district identified just under three acres that Tri-Lakes Cares could purchase to support their growing need and position them for future success in our community. The sale will close this month and aligns with our district’s commitment to managing resources wisely. As we explore any other opportunities for the remaining land at our central campus, we will take a strategic approach, so we ensure value for both our school district and community.

I would also like to congratulate the D38 Business Office. Our Chief Business Officer, Brett Ridgway, and Director of Planning, Facilities, and Grounds, Melissa Andrews recently received the Summit Award from the Colorado Association of School Business Officials (CASBO). The award recognizes their innovative financial work that led to the acquisition and renovation of D38’s new Career & Innovation Center. Their achievement reflects strategic problem-solving and collaboration in order to positively benefit students and our community.

In closing, I invite you to visit our schools to experience a musical performance, athletic event, or to volunteer your time. That’s the best way to witness the D38 Difference. We might be a small community, but we have big opportunities for our students.
