Colorado Springs police to host fraud, scam prevention event Tuesday
The Colorado Springs Police Department will host a free fraud and scam prevention event Tuesday in partnership with Chase Bank for the community.
Law enforcement and banking experts will teach people how to recognize common scams, identify red flags and take action if they or a loved one becomes a victim of fraud or identity theft, the Police Department said in a news release. There will also be a Q&A session at the end.
Speakers include Chase Community Manager Anthony Cerrone and police Sgt. Rob Ferri, who oversees the Financial Crimes Unit.
The event will be at the Chase branch at 1802 Southgate Road from 5:15-6:30 p.m. A virtual option on Zoom will also be available.
While not required, people can register on the Chase Bank’s event page.
The event follows a warning from Colorado officials in mid September about a new text-based scam that is spreading across the country. The text messages often claim your tax refund has been processed and include a link in the message stating you must submit “required payment information” by a fake deadline otherwise you won’t receive the refund.
