Human connection for the coffee commute
Coffee culture reigns in Teller County. From boutique roasters in mid-town Woodland Park to corner cafes in Divide and Florissant, Teller County loves its barista beverages. The Human Bean at 275 CO 24 in Woodland Park has been serving the commuter community for nearly seven years.
Though The Human Bean is a franchise establishment, it remains a community-run business that serves a vital role for people on the go. Recently, ownership has changed hands—owner Holly Speer and her business partner Amie Greathouse have sold the popular drive-thru to Stan Kelley.
Kelley assures fans of the franchise that the speed, quality and connection they love about the Woodland Park location will not change. “It’s going to be the same great staff serving a consistent product,” he said.
For loyal customers Lisa and Anthony Longman, trips to The Human Bean mark a bright spot in their day.
“I just love everyone here,” Lisa said. “They are so nice. We come here all the time.”
Touched by the connection she has with her customers, outgoing owner Speer is confident they won’t be disappointed.
“The community is going to be in good hands with Stan,” she said.
The Woodland Park franchise will be familiar ground for Kelley, who has been operating locations in the Pikes Peak region since 2021. He owns two other Human Bean drive-thrus in Colorado Springs and has plans to open a staggering 17 more.
As a business that plays an indispensable role for Teller County commuters, he notes that many of his customers appreciate the ability to get the same beverages whether heading down the pass in the morning or grabbing a pick-me-up for the drive home later in the day.
“The Woodland Park location will remain locally run,” Kelley said. “We hire locals and like to promote from within.”
So as the franchise flourishes, so will its staff.
Community involvement and making a positive impact are central to The Human Bean’s values. From corporate initiatives like the Food Drive Giveback, which supports local food banks, to Coffee for a Cure, a day when all proceeds go toward breast cancer treatment and prevention, the company is committed to giving back. At the local level, franchises also prioritize outreach by supporting schools and community organizations.
Kelley promises to uphold those commitments as he takes over ownership of the Woodland Park drive-thru.
For many people, coffee is an essential part of their morning routine. The Human Bean has become one of the most popular coffee shops in Teller by meeting that need—especially for those on the go, individuals with mobility challenges, or parents juggling kids in the car.
With friendly service and the convenience of a drive-thru, it offers a quick caffeine fix without the need to step outside, making mornings a little easier and brighter for its customers while also serving the community in a greater capacity.
