‘An Intimate Evening with Celtic Thunder’ marks singing ensemble’s return to Colorado Springs
Lovers of Celtic music can enjoy a treat for the eyes and ears on Sunday when Celtic Thunder brings its blend of traditional and original songs to the Pikes Peak Center.
“An Intimate Evening with Celtic Thunder” promises an interactive show featuring the ensemble’s greatest hits, visually arresting light effects, choreography and “a reunion with old friends,” according to the group’s website.
The internationally renowned group is no stranger to Colorado Springs, having performed in the city several times, most recently on Sept. 30 of last year. Comprised of nearly a dozen artists of various ages and vocal ranges, the group is known for its versatility, thrilling its audiences with classic Irish folk songs and contemporary favorites.
“This show is about reconnecting — with the music, with each other, and with the people who have supported us throughout the years,” stated longtime member Damian McGinty.
Since its debut in Dublin in 2007, Celtic Thunder has been in heavy demand, performing in arenas and concert halls around the world, including North America. In 2015, a nine-week North American tour covered 45 cities. The group has been named Billboard’s “Top World Album Artist” multiple times, and several of their albums have garnered a spot in the top 10 of the World Albums chart.
Each singer performs solo and as part of the group. Emmet Cahill, who performed in Colorado Springs as part of a 2015 solo tour, will perform with the group on Sunday, according to the website.
The group’s tour activities were curtailed during the COVID-19 pandemic, but they held a series of online concerts in 2020 and 2021, garnering more than 60,000 ticket sales.
“An Intimate Evening with Celtic Thunder” is the ensemble’s 16th U.S. tour, according to its website. The show will feature “current members and special guests,” the website promises.
“We wanted to create something truly special for our fans, something that feels personal and celebratory,” McGinty said. ”It’s a chance to relive the magic of Celtic Thunder in a more intimate way, and we couldn’t be more excited to share this experience with our audience.”
