Colorado Springs police recovered two vehicles after the keys were left in the car in separate motor vehicle thefts, according to blotter entries by the department on Thursday.

A gray 2000 Toyota Tundra, which also had the doors unlocked, was taken on Monday from the victim’s driveway. The entry stated that police attempted to stop the vehicle on Wednesday but it fled at a high rate of speed with the headlights off.

Officers located the vehicle again on Thursday and followed the vehicle to the 1900 block of South Chelton Road when an apprehension was possible.

Kameron Martinez, 24, was taken into custody after a brief struggle and charged with felony eluding, obstruction and distribution of fentanyl, according to the blotter entry.

The second vehicle recovery with keys left in it by police this week was a 2022 Chevrolet Trailblazer stolen on Sept. 2.

The vehicle was located on Wednesday and the driver fled when police attempted to stop the vehicle, according to the entry.

Police again located the vehicle in the area of Irving Lane and Ridenour Drive where he was taken into custody. Mario Rascon, 31, had an outstanding warrant for felony menacing with a deadly weapon and was charged with motor vehicle theft and vehicular eluding.
