Woman shot, suspect arrested after police pursuit in Colorado Springs
A man suspected of shooting a woman in the stomach overnight in east Colorado Springs is in custody after a police chase, authorities say.
Officers responded to the 2400 block of North Union Boulevard shortly after 1 a.m. Saturday and found the woman, who gave them a description of the shooter and his vehicle, the Colorado Springs Police Department reported in an online blotter entry. The woman was reportedly released from the hospital after sustaining non-life threatening wounds.
Less than a half hour later, officers located the suspect in his vehicle, but police say the alleged shooter drove off when officers attempted a traffic stop.
Police chased the car for about four miles until a patrol vehicle hit the car’s rear bumper in what is known as a PIT maneuver.
The driver, identified as 37-year-old Steven Vigil, was taken into custody soon after. He is being held at the El Paso County jail on a $50,000 bond, jail records show.
