Stabbing suspect arrested after police chase in Colorado Springs
A man suspected in a stabbing in early September was arrested after trying to escape police while riding a bicycle in southeast Colorado Springs, police said.
Officers arrested Jeffrey Alan Wallace, 38, at a shopping center near South Academy Boulevard and Hancock Expressway Thursday morning, the Colorado Springs Police Department reported in an online blotter entry.
Wallace had an outstanding warrant for first-degree assault of a person who was seriously injured from multiple stab wounds on Sept. 3, Police Department spokesperson Ira Cronin told The Gazette.
The stabbing occurred in the 4800 block of Astrozon Boulevard, less than three miles from where officers arrested Wallace.
The Police Department’s Homeless Outreach Team spotted Wallace on a bicycle in the 2700 block of South Academy Boulevard just before 11 a.m. while checking out numerous complaints about illegal camping and trespassing.
After briefly losing sight of Wallace while setting up a containment area, an officer spotted the suspect again and a chase ensued. Police took Wallace into custody soon after.
Jail records show he is being held at the El Paso County jail on a $25,000 bond. In addition to assault, he is also being charged with obstruction of a police officer and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Wallace is scheduled to appear in court Friday for an advisement hearing.
