6 weekend things to do around Colorado Springs and beyond: Cripple Creek Fall Fest, Chalktober, Manitou Ghost Walk, Candlelight Concerts

SATURDAY-SUNDAY

Festivals everywhere and the Cripple Creek Fall Fest is unlike most of the others. After all, where else can you be invited to bray like a donkey? And those lovable mining-era donkeys are the grand marshals of the weekend parade. Vendors set up all along Bennett Avenue with a whole variety of products and crafts and food ranging from BBQ and turkey legs to crepes. There’s a pet costume parade, kids’ zone, chainsaw carvers, a pie eating contest, hayrides and unusual bingo. cripplecreekdonkeys.com

THURSDAY-FRIDAY

Every eighth-grader in Colorado Springs School District 11 will have an opportunity to  express themself by creating their own art on sidewalks in downtown Colorado Springs during an immersive  Chalktober: From Class to Concrete. On Thursday they will be producing their sidewalk art gallery during school hours and then the community is invited to come enjoy the finished creations during the day and during First Friday’s art walk.

FRIDAY-SUNDAY

A busy weekend for the conclusion of Creek Week with amazing numbers of volunteers cleaning up Fountain Creek Watershed between Palmer Lake and Pueblo. This is the 11th annual week clearing out all that trash and debris fouling the creek and adjoining parks and open space. Open to all. Register: coloradosprings.gov/creekweek.

FRIDAY-SATURDAY

This is a scare-you tradition  celebrating 30 years in Manitou . Take a Ghost Stories of Old Manitou Walking Tour starting this weekend or Oct. 10-11, 17-18 and 24.  It benefits Manitou Springs Heritage Museum and features  Theatre d’ Art performers who turn into “Spirit Guides”  to tell ghostly tales as participants visit historic sites. Reservations: manitouspringsheritagecenter.org/ghost-tours.

SATURDAY

The setting is glittering during the nationally touring Candlelight Concerts and there are two to experience Saturday at First United Methodist Church, 420 N. Nevada Ave. The first, at 6:30 p.m., is the music of Hans Zimmer, tickets from $24. Then the songs of two groups that have packed stadiums, Coldplay and Imagine Dragons, at 8:45 p.m., tickets from $28.50. The concerts will be repeated here on Jan. 16. Feverup.com

FRIDAY-SATURDAY

As they say, these are the best of the best in rodeo and here’s an opportunity to see them all as the top rodeo cowboys socialize and compete in their events during Rodeo All-Star Weekend at National Western Complex in Denver. Watch semi-finals and finals on Saturday. rodeoallstar.com
