Summit Elementary School in Divide showed an increase in overall school performance for the 2024-2025 academic year.

According to a report released last month by the 2025 Colorado School Performance Framework, Summit increased to 92.9 percent, up from 89.5 percent from the year before.

The increase follows Summit’s performance rating that was higher by 21.8 percent in the previous year.

“Achieving growth like this in back-to-back years is challenging,” said Ginger Slocum, interim superintendent.

The report shows that, with its 2025 score, Summit ranks 22nd out of 1,833 schools statewide and 12th among 758 elementary schools.

“The tremendous growth we’ve seen at Summit is a direct result of the hard work and dedication of our students, staff, and families,” said Summit principal, Katie Rexford. “We are proud of our progress and excited to keep building on this success.”

According to the report, Columbine Elementary School decreased in school performance from 78 percent to 66.2 percent while Merit Academy, the district’s charter school, decreased from 86.7 percent to 85 percent.

Woodland Park Junior/Senior High School showed a decrease from 67 percent to 65.3 percent. The former middle school, which closed and was integrated into the junior/senior high school, showed a decrease from 81.7 percent to 52.1 percent in its final year of operation. The report attributes the decrease in the performance rating at the middle school to a lack of student growth.

For Merit Academy, the report cites its ranking as fifth among 91 K-12 schools evaluated in the state.

“We’re honored to be a part of this district and to celebrate two years in a row as a school in the top 6 percent of the state,” said Merit’s headmaster Gwynne Pekron. “Our mission is to prepare students not just for academic success, but for lifelong learning and growth, and we see this every day within the programs we offer.”

For the academic year, the Woodland Park School District earned an accredited rating with a performance school of 66.1, a change from last year’s score of 73.8%.

Overall, Woodland Park School District ranks in the top 25 percent of school districts across the state.
