On the docket this week: Mulberry couple, ‘shooting frenzy’ suspect back in court
On the heels of a busy week in courtrooms along the Front Range that saw a district judge hand down a 30-year prison sentence for a young Colorado Springs man and an incompetent-to-proceed ruling for the 2015 Planned Parenthood shooting suspect in federal court, more proceedings await.
Here is the rundown for upcoming hearings this week:
Monday:
Dwight Mulberry, 54, and Joni Mulberry, 42, will be back in court for their second arraignment, during which they are expected to plead guilty or not-guilty. The El Paso County couple were arrested in March 2024 on suspicion of using their company Craftsman Homes and Interiors to steal and launder more than $2 million from 2023 to 2024, the Sheriff’s Office said at the time, according to prior Gazette coverage.

Court records show the couple withdrew from separate plea agreements in July.
In Joni Mulberry’s case, she faces 16 charges, including seven counts of theft and nine counts of fraud. In Dwight Mulberry’s case, he faces 12 charges, including seven counts of theft and five counts of fraud.
Court records indicate several charges were dropped after the pair’s preliminary hearings early this year, including all 18 money laundering counts.
Tuesday:
Rupesh Jain, who was accused of shooting up his own apartment and wounding a sleeping neighbor before going on a non-fatal destructive shooting frenzy on Sept. 16, 2024, is set for sentencing after accepting a plea agreement in June.

He was initially set for sentencing in August, but a delay in triggering a pre-sentence investigative report pushed the hearing to Tuesday.
The agreement saw Rupesh Jain, 54, plead guilty to assault with extreme indifference and illegal discharge of a firearm, with the remaining counts to be dismissed.
Thursday:
In Fremont County, Hanme Clark, accused of a 2023 Custer County triple homicide, is set for another review hearing after his September trial dates were vacated.
