Man arrested after K-9 deployment in northwest Colorado Springs
Colorado Springs police arrested a man Saturday night after he allegedly set fire to a home and caused “thousands of dollars” in damage to nearby businesses and vehicles, according to an online blotter post.
Officers were dispatched around 10 p.m. to a domestic violence call in which Jordan Ahola, 25, allegedly set fire to a home in the 2500 block of Centennial Boulevard before fleeing the scene, police said.
When police arrived, they tended to the victim and worked to contain the fire. Meanwhile, Ahola allegedly used a crowbar to break windows of businesses and cars in the 3400 block of Centennial Boulevard, about one mile north of the initial call location, the blotter entry states.
A separate police unit heard glass shattering and responded to the scene, and Ahola allegedly ignored orders by police to put the crowbar down. Police say Ahola raised the crowbar and began fleeing on foot when they released K-9 Riggs.
Riggs pursued Ahola and “secured” his arm, forcing him to the ground, the blotter post states. Medics took Ahola to a hospital to treat the puncture wounds from the dog bite. After being released from the hospital, he was booked into the El Paso County jail.
Ahola is scheduled to appear in court at 1:30 p.m. Monday.
