Crime recap: Colorado Springs police made 354 arrests last week
Colorado Springs police saw motor vehicle theft, gun violence and domestic abuse, among dozens of other offenses, last week, making a total of 354 arrests, according to department records.
From Sept. 21 to Sept. 27, the Colorado Springs Police Department posted 13 blotter entries to its database of arrests approved for public release. Here is a recap of those entries:
On Monday, Miguel Hernandez-Rivera was arrested after hauling an excavator on a semi-truck on southbound Interstate 25, when he hit the excavator on an overpass, then continued on his route. The damage to the excavator caused debris on I-25, closing several lanes, and a fluid leak, prompting response from a Hazmat team. Hernandez-Rivera was arrested on charges of careless driving, hauling an oversized load and hit-and-run.
Also on Monday, a school resource officer at Panorama Middle School was notified of two students menacing with a firearm during school release. One of the juveniles was a felon. On Wednesday, a search warrant was executed at the juvenile’s home, and two handguns, an assault rifle and previously reported stolen military equipment were recovered. The juvenile was arrested and booked at the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center.
On Tuesday, Michael Archuleta, 48, was arrested after stealing a Dodge Charger and then fleeing from police. Archuleta and two passengers fled on foot before Archuleta was arrested. Police say they found misdemeanor amounts of narcotics, including methamphetamines and fentanyl, in his possession.
On Thursday, officers contacted a “suspicious vehicle” in the 300 block of Wooten Road. Police found a person in the vehicle slumped over, and when they contacted them, they found they were deceased. CSPD’s Homicide Team assumed control of the investigation.
On Friday, a juvenile was arrested on two warrants of possession of weapons by a previous offender and possession of weapons by a juvenile. A search warrant was executed at their home, and police recovered a stolen pump action shotgun, a semi-automatic rifle and two handguns.
On Saturday, Jordan Ahola, 25, was arrested after a domestic violence incident, in which he set a victim’s house on fire in the 2500 block of Centennial Boulevard and then began breaking the windows of nearby businesses and vehicles using a crowbar. Police used K-9 Riggs to apprehend Ahola.

- On Sept. 21, Curtis Singleton, 33, was contacted by Loss Prevention at a local business when he pulled a knife on the employees. Singleton was arrested on charges of aggravated robbery.
- On Monday, an unidentified male suspect entered the back door of a business and demanded money from the cashier while “threatening a weapon.” The suspect fled on foot when the employee refused to give him cash. Police say they were unable to locate the suspect.
- On Monday, police arrested three adults after being contacted in a stolen Hyundai Elantra. The driver, Kelvin Jacks, was arrested on charges of motor vehicle theft and vehicular eluding, and the two passengers were arrested on other outstanding warrants.
- Also on Monday, police apprehended four juvenile females after being found in a stolen Honda Pilot, fleeing police contact “recklessly,” then fleeing on foot. The driver was found with a “large sum of currency.” The juveniles were released to their parents with court summonses.
- On Friday, a man was arrested after discharging “at least” one round into a vehicle. Police say nobody was injured.
- On Friday, police were dispatched to a shooting in the 900 block of Potter Place. Upon their arrival, police found a man with non-life threatening injuries and did not locate a suspect. No arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing.
- Also on Friday, police arrested a 46-year-old man who was allegedly trespassing and damaging property in the 11000 block of Voyager Parkway. The suspect was arrested and resisted police, assaulting two Colorado Springs police officers and one El Paso County deputy in doing so.
