Colorado Parks and Wildlife searching for injured deer tangled in material
An injured deer spotted tangled in red material in the Gleneagle neighborhood just north of Colorado Springs is being searched for by Colorado Parks and Wildlife, according to a post on social media.
Antlered animals naturally shed their antlers annually and are highly resilient according to the post.
The agency is advising the community to be mindful of wildlife while planning outdoor decorations. Parks and Wildlife suggests residents remove potential tangle hazards in their outdoor spaces for wildlife while they are in migration from summer habitats to winter range.
Hammocks, garden items and holiday decorations are common hazards for antlered animals, according to a previous news release from Parks and Wildlife.
The agency has responded to more incidents involving Halloween decorations in recent years due to their growth in popularity, the release stated. The agency recommends holiday lights and decorations be placed higher than 6 feet or attached tightly to trees and buildings.
When encountering an entangled animal, report it by calling the nearest Parks and Wildlife office or Colorado State Patrol. The agency’s offices can be found on their website.
