Man stabbed at downtown Colorado Springs park

A man was hospitalized after being stabbed in the neck Saturday afternoon at Monument Valley Park, the second stabbing to have occurred near the park in the past 30 days.

A blotter post by the Colorado Springs Police Department states that the stabbing occurred after a man stole the victim’s backpack and an altercation between the two broke out.

During the struggle, the victim was stabbed by an “unknown object” in the side of his neck, causing “non-life-threatening” injuries that were stitched up with eight sutures, according to the blotter entry.

The victim was treated at CommonSpirit Penrose Hospital, and police said the suspect has not been identified.

The Police Department asks anyone who has information about the incident to call 719-444-7000 or to report through Pikes Peak Crime Stoppers.

The incident is the second stabbing in the past month near Monument Valley Park. On Aug. 28, Daniel Parsons, 48, was fatally stabbed under a bridge near a trail by the park. Police have not made an arrest in connection with Parsons’ death.
