Colorado Springs police saw theft, gun violence and domestic abuse, among dozens of other offenses, last week, making a total of 265 arrests, according to department records.
From Sept. 14 to Sept. 20, the Colorado Springs Police Department posted 17 blotter entries to its public database of arrests approved for public release. Here is a recap of those entries:
On Monday, Nathan Van Winkle, 32, was arrested after stealing a motorcycle with a stolen “getaway vehicle” and trailer. When police recovered the stolen getaway vehicle, trailer and motorcycle, they recovered an additional stolen motorcycle. Upon police contact with Van Winkle, he attempted to flee on the stolen motorcycle but was arrested shortly after.
On Tuesday, one man was arrested in connection with an attempted homicide case from April, when he was a juvenile. In the April shooting, he and two other suspects allegedly fired 30 rounds into a parked vehicle with two bystanders inside. One of the additional suspects has been arrested and the other is still at large.
On Wednesday, a person who was repossessing a vehicle in the 700 block of East Moreno Avenue was confronted by a male who told him he could not take the car. When the victim continued towing it, the suspect allegedly ripped the cameras from the tow-truck and then fired multiple rounds into the vehicle. One bystander was shot in the altercation. Police have not announced any arrests.
On Thursday, Peter Hughes, 36, was arrested after allegedly breaking into a residence in the 6100 block of Mustang Meadow Point, where a victim and their 6-year-old child, who had several protection orders against him, lived. Hughes was taken into custody on several charges, including false imprisonment and child abuse.
On Friday, a person was shot while inside their vehicle at Grinnell and South Powers boulevards. The victim was able to drive themselves to the hospital. No arrests have been announced by police.
On Saturday morning, police arrested one man who was driving a stolen vehicle connected to a robbery earlier in the week, in which he allegedly threatened to shoot an employee. When police attempted to contact the suspect in the stolen vehicle, a foot pursuit ensued, leading to the deployment of K-9 Roam. Roam grabbed the suspect by the right bicep, and he was taken into custody without further incident.
On Saturday afternoon, one man was allegedly stabbed in the neck after being robbed at Monument Valley Park. The victim needed eight sutures to close the wound. This is the second stabbing near the park in the past 30 days, following the fatal stabbing of 48-year-old Daniel Parsons on Aug. 28.
