AROUND TOWN: Project Angel Heart provides meals to thousands of severely ill Coloradans
For those with severe illnesses, preparing or having access to good meals can be much more than a challenge.
Dealing with health issues such as chemo, HIV/AIDS, cancer and kidney disease is life challenge enough and cooking or grocery shopping an impossibility, financially a major barrier.
This is where Project Angel Heart comes in. For 30 years, the Denver-based nonprofit has made from-scratch, chef-prepared, medically necessary meals available to Colorado patients at home, at no cost. Project Angel Heart works in collaboration with Care and Share Food Bank of Southern Colorado for the large number of meals. During 2025, 815,000 meals will be prepared and delivered to 5,200 Coloradans by volunteers in Colorado Springs, the Denver metro area, Pueblo, Boulder, Brighton, Longmont, Loveland, Greeley and Fort Collins.
Project Angel Heart observed 20 years of serving Colorado Springs with a September gathering for volunteers and supporters at Phantom Canyon Brewing Co.
Colorado Springs Utilities was named Southern Colorado Corporate Partner of the Year.
President and CEO Dr. Marti Macchi announced a 20th-anniversary fundraising drive with the first $20,000 being matched dollar for dollar. “Food is Medicine” has a focus to add even more meal recipients and volunteers.
