With fall just around the corner, Tuesday temperatures will bring some “summer-like vibes” to southern Colorado before the seasonal change, according to Gazette news partner KOAA. 

Temperatures will warm into the 60s and 70s in the mountain valleys and higher-elevated areas, and they will be in the 70s, 80s and lower 90s in the plains. There will also be a chance for heavy rain and storms that have hail.

“Due to growing instability and wind shear, storms this afternoon will have the potential to be pretty strong, with low end severe threats on the Palmer Divide and eastern plains. Risks of severe weather today will include outflow wind gusts, hail and heavy rainfall. Be weather aware!” said KOAA Meteorologist Alan Rose. 

Storms will start in the mountains and push into in the plains and Interstate 25 corridor during the mid-to-late afternoon.

At least one or two severe thunderstorms are possible along the Palmer Divide and far southeast plains, the National Weather Service in Pueblo said in a post on X. Wind gusts can be up to 60 mph, and hail can be quarter-sized. 

The cold front will cool Wednesday and Thursday by as much as 10-15 degrees, topping out afternoon Colorado Springs temperatures to the upper 60s, Rose said. For Wednesday, storms will continue in the area, but skies will dry Thursday.

Warm temperatures will rebound in the middle 70s by Friday, with some lower 80s possible for the final week of the summer.

Here’s the weather in Colorado Springs for the rest of the week according to the National Weather Service:

Saturday: Temperatures will be around 80 degrees during the day, with skies being mostly sunny. Saturday night temperatures will drop to around 52 degrees as skies turn partly cloudy.

Sunday: Another warm day can be expected, with a high near 79 degrees and mostly sunny skies. Sunday night will cool to around 50 degrees, and skies will be partly cloudy.
