Where good news shines
Kyle Freeland is up for a beautiful award.
The Colorado Rockies’ starting pitcher was nominated on Monday for MLB’s Roberto Clemente Award. The honor goes to a player who “best represents the game of baseball through extraordinary character, community involvement, philanthropy and positive contributions on and off the field,” the league said. Each team nominates one player.
Teams on Monday and Tuesday will wear a “No. 21” patch on their uniforms to honor the Pittsburgh Pirates icon.
This list of nominees features players whose various community and philanthropic activities have focused on important causes such as underserved children and communities in the United States and around the world, individuals with cancer and other illnesses, educational programs, environmental advocacy and more.
