Boaters at Lake Pueblo State Park can expect nearly 200 additional slips and a new general store when North Shore Marina is rebuilt during the next few years.
Colorado Parks and Wildlife signed a 20-year contract with the marina’s operator, The O’Neil Group, for a replacement marina and a general store with a restaurant and laundry facility to be built at the state park, according to a news release Friday.
Under the contract, The O’Neil Group, a Colorado Springs private equity firm and the operator of the marina since 2022, will continue its role until 2045, said Becky Buist, operations manager at Lake Pueblo State Park.
The O’Neil Group plans to spend an estimated $10 million on the rebuilt marina, said Dan Allen, general manager of the North Shore Marina.
Allen said the replacement marina will feature about 715 slips, or boat parking spots — the current marina has around 528.
The construction will be completed in two phases, Allen said, with the first phase scheduled to be done by fall 2026 and the second by fall 2027.
As part of the second phase, a general store will be built near the marina, Allen said.
The general store will have a restaurant, a laundry facility and additional pump out stations for sewage removal. Allen said that the store is still in the design phase, so there is no estimated price tag. The general store’s construction is not included in the $10 million estimation.
Under the O’Neil group’s operation, the North Shore Marina has amenities like on-lake towing, fuel, food and mechanical services. Under its previous contract, the group’s operation would have expired Oct. 31.
Lake Pueblo State Park has two marinas: the North Shore and the South Shore. The South Shore Marina has been “family owned” since 2001, according to its website, and features more than 400 boat slips. After the completion of the replacement North Shore Marina, over 1,100 boats will be able to live at the state park.
