Man accused of setting church, restaurant and gas station on fire Friday

Fire Line

Colorado Springs police arrested a man they say set a church, gas station and fast-food restaurant on fire early Friday in the 4200 block of North Academy Boulevard, according to a police blotter entry.

Officers booked Eric Therrien, 32, into the El Paso County jail, where he was being held on $10,000 bond on suspicion of fourth-degree arson.

The first fire — at the south end of a church — was reported by a citizen who flagged down officers in the area. Police were able to quickly locate and extinguish the fire, the entry stated.

“Moments later” a second fire broke out at a gas station west of the church and a third began at a nearby fast-food restaurant.

Officers detained Therrien, who had evidence in his possession that linked him to the fires, police said. Officers also recovered evidence at the scene.

First responders contained and extinguished the fires before any significant damage occurred. Police said they do not believe that the suspect specifically targeted the buildings.

In addition to CSPD, the Colorado Springs Fire Department and American Medical Response helped put out the fires.
