FBI, Pueblo police announce 20 arrests, seizure of guns and more than 20 pounds of drugs

Around 40 federal, state and local law enforcement agencies were involved in the FBI’s Operation Summer Heat that made arrests and seized guns and drugs in southern Colorado, according to a news release Wednesday from the FBI Denver field office.

The operation took place from Aug. 5 to Friday and led to the arrests of 20 “violent criminals” and removal of 42 firearms. Under 3 pounds of cocaine, almost 4 pounds of methamphetamine and nearly 19 pounds of fentanyl were confiscated, according to the release.

FBI Denver Special Agent in Charge Mark Michalek stated in the release that the agencies working together is “making Pueblo safer, stronger and more resilient.”

“The impact of the types of crimes perpetrated by these individuals and their associates will not be tolerated, and our officers and partners will continue this work to improve the safety of our community members,” Michaelek stated. 

The agencies credited in the release for being “invaluable” in the operation were the:

  • Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives
  • Drug Enforcement Administration
  • Colorado Bureau of Investigation
  • Pueblo Police Department
  • Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office
  • United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Colorado
  • 10th Judicial District Attorney’s Office
