48-year-old killed in stabbing near Monument Valley Park identified

A man found stabbed to death on Thursday morning near Monument Valley Park has been identified by Colorado Springs police.

Officers were called to the scene in the 100 block of West Cache La Poudre Street around 8:15 a.m. and found a man dead on a trail under a bridge by the park, the Colorado Springs Police Department announced Thursday.

A day later, the El Paso County Coroner’s Office identified the man as 48-year-old Daniel Parsons.

Caitlin Ford, a spokesperson for the Police Department, said investigators believe Parsons was homeless.

Parsons’ death is being investigated at the 24th homicide in Colorado Springs this year. At this time last year, there were 29.

“At this time, we are still working to determine what led up to this incident. We are still working to identify any potential witness or a suspect,” Ford said.
