A vehicle crash at North Academy Boulevard and Half Turn Road that “impacted a fire hydrant” shut down the intersection Tuesday after a sinkhole began to open, according to a post on social media by the Colorado Springs Police Department. 

As of Tuesday evening, North Academy Boulevard was closed to North Carefree Circle, and the southbound left lane was closed at Half Turn Road. Police are advising people to avoid the area.

In another post later on Tuesday, CSPD stated that a “large water main break” had occurred, closing northbound North Academy Boulevard from North Carefree Circle to Austin Bluffs Parkway.
