“Harding Nursery cordially invites community members to our Labor Day Sale,” said Kristen Burnside. “Among my recommendations for how best to appreciate autumn colors: Autumn Maple Blaze, Border Jewel, Burning Bush, Chokeberry, Chrysanthemums, Hot Wings Maple, Pink Muhly Grass, Shenandoah Switchgrass and Virburnum. Most are hardy and easy to care for; all are beautiful.”
The quick-growing, drought-resistant (once established) Autumn Maple Blaze has dense red foliage and may attract birds and squirrels. If you’re looking to add fall color to your landscape, this tree provides a fiery focal point.
Ground-covering Border Jewel is a perennial that brings red color to fall that may last through early winter. You’ll want to add it to your pollinator garden (and watch the butterflies who visit)!
Brilliant red fall foliage bedecks the Burning Bush in the fall, delivering striking visual interest to its sun-filled place in the yard. Note: It is considered to have an invasive nature and can be toxic to pets (and humans).
Chokeberry is a versatile deciduous shrub. In the fall it sports shiny red or black berries.
Chrysanthemums are known as the “Flower of Fall,” as they produce flowers exclusively in this season. Colors include bronze, lavender, orange, pink, purple, red, white and yellow.
Showy Hot Wings Maple is small and rugged; built for Colorado’s extreme climates. In the fall, its leaves turn to a reddish orange (from the brilliant yellow of summer).
The ethereal, colorful blooms of adaptable Pink Muhly Grass deliver late-season hues.
Shenandoah Switchgrass is an ornamental grass with narrow, linear leaves that bring color, movement and texture to a landscape. Its tall, feathery plumes display distinctive reddish-purple foliage.
Virburnum is a low-maintenance perennial plant that features brightly burning foliage adorned with berries that will get the attention of birds.
