A second block of Tejon Street in downtown Colorado Springs will close after the Labor Day holiday as construction for the Tejon Street Revitalization project moves north.

Tejon between Pikes Peak Avenue and East Kiowa Street, the final block of construction, will close Tuesday to vehicle traffic and street parking, the city said in a news release Thursday. Project officials expect the block to reopen in December.

Pedestrian and business access will be maintained during the road closure, the city said.

Businesses along the block will receive vouchers they can disperse to their customers for two hours of free parking at three city nearby city garages at South Nevada and Colorado avenues, North Nevada Avenue and East Kiowa Street, and at North Cascade Avenue and East Bijou Street.

Detour Map - Tejon Street Revitalization Project block 2, Sept. 2, 2025 through December 2025

This map shows the detour around the block of Tejon Street in downtown Colorado Springs between Pikes Peak Avenue and East Kiowa Street, which will close to vehicle traffic and street parking on Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2025.

The city will accommodate the Fallen Firefighters event, Veterans Day Parade and Festival of Lights Parade during the block’s closure, spokesman Eric Sieger said.

Crews will widen the sidewalks and patio areas and will make other street improvements along the block, including installing new lighting, trees, benches, bike racks, removing the center lane and other aesthetic changes.

Tree replacement on Tejon Street will happen in the fall as first phase nears completion

The $8.6 million revitalization project began in March. It will increase public safety and enhance pedestrian accessibility and business activity, officials have said.

The city recently completed the same surface improvements to the block of Tejon Street between Colorado and Pikes Peak avenues. That block has now reopened fully to vehicles and pedestrians.
