Colorado Springs radio station partners with Josh & John’s to create ‘magical’ new flavor

Josh & John's new ice cream flavor

An iconic Colorado Springs-based ice cream company is teaming up with a local radio station to release a ‘magical’ new flavor next week — and it’s inspired by a popular song.

Josh & John’s has partnered with 98.9 Magic FM to create “98.9 Magical Mystical: Moonbeam Ice Cream,” a limited-edition ice cream flavor with lemon cake, blueberry swirls and white chocolate chips, according to a press release from the radio station.

The ice cream is inspired by Benson Boone’s song “Mystical Magical,” specifically the lyric, “you can feel like Moonbeam ice cream,” the release said.

“It’s too perfect that Benson Boone has a song called ‘Mystical MAGICal’ and we’re 98.9 MAGIC FM. And with the viral lyric surrounding Moonbeam Ice Cream, we wanted to collab with Josh & John’s, a Colorado Springs institution, to bring Moonbeam Ice Cream to life,” said Jeff Haber, the station’s program director and afternoon on-air talent.

To celebrate the new flavor, 98.9 Magic FM is set to host an event at the downtown Josh & John’s location (329 N. Tejon St.) on Friday, Sept. 5 to officially release the new flavor, as well as give fans a chance to win tickets to Boone’s concert at Ball Arena next month.

While event attendees will be among the first to try the new flavor, all Josh & John’s locations will offer Moonbeam Ice Cream while supplies last; it’s expected to sell out that weekend.

According to the release, $1 of every pint of Moonbeam Ice Cream sold will go to Peak Education, a Colorado Springs charity that empowers local students to reach their dreams.

“This special collaboration highlights our shared passion for creativity and connection, offering a one-of-a-kind treat you won’t want to miss,” said Brandon Dale, a Josh & John’s operator.
