Cripple Creek casino robber attempted same heist in July, arrest documents reveal
Andrew Irvine, the man accused of stealing more than $76,000 from a cash register at a Cripple Creek Casino, allegedly attempted the same crime one month prior.
Irvine, 26, was arrested on Aug. 18 after stealing $76,800 from a cash register at the J.P. McGill Casino in Cripple Creek. When police were dispatched to a panic alarm at the casino, staff said Irvine “leaped” over the cashier cage counter “just like last time,” according to an arrest affidavit obtained by The Gazette.
The staff member was referring to an attempted robbery on July 19, in which a man, dressed similarly to Irvine on the night of Aug. 18, leaped over the cashier cage, and instead of grabbing fistfuls of cash, was shoved away by a cashier, the affidavit states.
Just after 4 a.m. Monday, Irvine allegedly attempted the robbery again, this time, waiting for the cashier to vacate the cage.
Irvine’s arrest affidavit says that he jumped over the cashier’s cage, grabbed two fistfuls of cash and ran to his car in the parking lot of another nearby casino. A post-incident inventory revealed that Irvine left with $76,800.
Irvine was arrested later that day by Colorado Springs police and is being held in Teller County, awaiting arraignment. His first court appearance is on Sept. 8.
On Aug. 25, investigators recovered $70,550 from the Irvine’s attorney, along with various items of clothing that the defendant was wearing during the incidents.
