Pikes Peak United Way adds another food pantry in northern Colorado Springs

Pikes Peak United Way is opening another free mobile food pantry starting Thursday at a northern Colorado Springs location.

Springs Church, 1515 Auto Mall Loop, will host the food distribution in its parking lot from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. every third Thursday of each month starting this week.

“This additional location demonstrates that hunger and food instability is not isolated to just one area of our community,” Cami Bremer, president and CEO of Pikes Peak United Way,” said in announcing the additional opportunity. “The need is just as present as ever, and adding this location allows us to reach as many residents in need as possible.”

The giveaway is open to all, and no pre-registration is necessary.

The local United Way also will continue its mobile food pantry in the parking lot of Mitchell High School from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. outside by the flagpole on the first  Thursday of the month beginning Oct. 2.

The program at that site has been offered for 11 years, serving 250 to 300 families with some 20,000 pounds of food.

Pikes Peak United Way’s Family Success Center, 1520 Verde Drive, in southeast Colorado Springs also has a Sunny Side Market with free groceries and household essentials. Another Sunny Side Market at 501 E. Iowa Ave. in Fountain is run by Connections 4 Life Center in the same building.

Care and Share Food Bank for Southern Colorado, which provides a majority of the food Pikes Peak United Way hands out, also has an online map of free food pantries and pickups in the region at https://careandshare.org/findfood/.
