Five must-see games on the Nuggets’ 2025-26 schedule | Vinny’s Take

The NBA’s week-long schedule rollout is finally finished.

Denver will have 26 games on national television, including the season opener on Oct. 23 and another Christmas Day game. The schedule features 16 back-to-backs.

Here are five games Nuggets fans can’t miss this season:

1. Oct. 23: Nuggets at Golden State Warriors

A highly anticipated Nuggets season starts on the road, unfortunately for Denver fans. The good news is the game will be carried on ESPN. (Only six teams have more national TV games than Denver.) Guys like Cam Johnson, Tim Hardaway Jr., DaRon Holmes II and Jonas Valanciunas could make their Nuggets debut in San Francisco. The Warriors roster looks a lot like the end of last season, led by Stephen Curry, Jimmy Butler and Draymond Green. The Nuggets and Warriors split a pair of games after the Warriors acquired Butler from Miami, including a 114-105 win at Chase Center when Nikola Jokic, Jamal Murray and Christian Braun did not play.

2. Nov. 21: Nuggets at Houston Rockets

The Nuggets haven’t had much success in the first two seasons of the NBA Cup. Houston headlines another tough group for Denver that also includes the Warriors, Spurs and Trail Blazers. If Denver wants to make it out of the group stage for the first time, it likely requires a win at Houston. Denver went 2-1 against the Rockets last season, but that was before Houston traded for Kevin Durant. The game will be broadcast on Amazon Prime, one of the NBA’s new broadcast partners this season.

3. Dec. 25: Minnesota Timberwolves vs. Nuggets

It’s going to be a late Christmas night in Denver. The Nuggets will host the Timberwolves to conclude the unofficial start of the NBA season with an 8:30 p.m. listed tipoff at Ball Arena. The game will start closer to 8:45. It will be the third matchup of the season between the teams that split playoff series in 2023 and 2024. The Nuggets are 2-1 in their last three Christmas games, but Minnesota swept Denver in four regular-season meetings last season.

4. Jan. 29: Brooklyn Nets at Nuggets

This one is unlike the others. Brooklyn’s a safe bet to be watching the playoffs, but the Nets’ trip to Denver will serve as Michael Porter Jr.’s return to Ball Arena. Porter played his first six seasons with the Nuggets before being sent to Brooklyn for Johnson, his likely replacement in the starting lineup. Expect a tribute video for Porter and lots of No. 1 jerseys in the stands. Porter’s time in Denver was a complicated period highlighted by his perseverance to help the Nuggets win their first championship after three back surgeries and lowlighted by inconsistent playoff performances, including this year’s injury-plagued run.

5. April 10: Oklahoma City Thunder at Nuggets

This is an Amazon Prime game and the final opportunity for the Nuggets to see how they stack up with the defending champion before a potential postseason rematch. The Thunder look a lot like last season, but Oklahoma City still has an abundance of assets if Sam Presti’s front office has any questions about the roster before the trade deadline. Denver’s roster is much improved from last season, but the Thunder remain the favorites to repeat as champs — for now.
