IDs confirmed after fatal July 29 motorcycle crashes in Colorado Springs

Two motorcyclists involved in separate crashes July 29 that turned fatal have been identified by the El Paso County Coroner’s Office.

Christopher Easton, 28, died July 31, according to a news release by Colorado Springs police.

The motorcycle driven by Easton hit the left side of the SUV after veering to avoid a vehicle turning left near the intersection of Constitution Avenue and Sierra Drive on the city’s east side.

A passenger on the motorcycle was also hospitalized, according to the release.

Also on July 29, Matthew Campbell, 26, died after a vehicle turned in front of Campbell near the intersection of Academy Boulevard and Pace Drive, police said in the release.

On Monday, the Police Department released the identities of two other motorcyclists who died in earlier July crashes. Johnny Givens, 27, died in a single-vehicle crash in the 4100 block of Drennan Road. Richard Mondragon, 60, lost control and tipped over July 27 near North Weber Street and East Bijou Street. He died a day later.

In Colorado Springs, there have been 34 traffic fatalities this year compared to 32 at the same time one year ago, according to police. Of the fatalities this year, 16 have been motorcyclists.
