A jury of officers found Air Force Academy Cadet Viet Zaengle guilty of sexual assault on Wednesday after hearing from witnesses including the victim.
A former girlfriend and fellow cadet accused Zaengle, now a junior, of sexual assault during June 2023 while off campus.
His girlfriend had previously made it clear on earlier occasions that she was not comfortable with a type of sex that Zaengle engaged in, said 1st Lt. Cliff Greco, the prosecuting attorney while summarizing the case for the jury.
“She felt betrayed and violated,” Greco said.

After some reflection, at the end of summer break in 2023 she broke up with Zaengle, he said.
Private defense attorney Lance Wood told the jury that whether the two had sex was not in question, only whether Zaengle had the woman’s consent.
A military judge sentenced Zaengle to confinement for 30 months, dismissal from the Air Force, a reprimand, and forfeiture of all pay and allowances, a news release stated.
