The teenage driver of a minibike that collided with a vehicle in the Union and Dublin boulevards intersection on June 15 has died.

The Colorado Springs Police Department announced Monday that the juvenile on the bike, later identified by the El Paso County Coroner’s Office as a 16-year-old male, died earlier this month.

Police reported that they were called around 6:50 p.m. on June 15 to the intersection of Dublin and Union boulevards for a serious crash. According to initial reports, the driver of a minibike, heading south on Union, collided with a vehicle traveling eastbound on Dublin.

The mini-bike driver was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. Officials said the driver of the vehicle was not injured.

Police investigators say that there were three people riding minibikes south on Union Boulevard towards Dublin Boulevard. As they approached the intersection of Union and Dublin, the rider of one of those minibikes entered the intersection against a red light. As the minibike entered the intersection southbound, an eastbound car traveled through the intersection, and the vehicle and the minibike collided.

The autopsy of the 16-year-old was completed on June 23. Officials do not typically release the names of juveniles.

The teen’s death marks the 18th traffic death within the Colorado Springs city limes for 2025.
