The city of Manitou Springs is finishing up major sewer line repairs, while construction and closures continue on South Academy Boulevard.

Here’s where the cones will be around Colorado Springs this upcoming week.

South Academy Boulevard

Closures continue in the ongoing, multi-million dollar Military Access, Mobility & Safety Improvement Project through the Colorado Department of Transportation.

Southbound South Academy will see a temporary full closure between US Highway 85/87 and Coventry Drive next week. Crews will be placing lane striping  to reopen two lanes on the Fountain Creek Bridge.

• Tuesday, July 1, 7 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. 

Southbound drivers will detour onto US 85/87, drive to B Street, turn onto Magrath Avenue then reenter South Academy. US 85/87 traffic trying to enter southbound South Academy will need to continue to Mesa Ridge Parkway, merge onto northbound Interstate 25 until exit 135, then enter South Academy.

All lanes on the bridge are expected to open by July 2.

If needed, CDOT crews are also planning a potential full closure of southbound South Academy under I-25. Crews would be finishing road paving operations.

• Monday, June 30, 7 p.m. to 4:30 a.m.

Southbound traffic would divert north on I-25 to South Circle Drive (exit 138), then reenter the interstate going south to exit 135. Northbound traffic attempting to exit to westbound South Academy Boulevard will also need to continue to South Circle Drive and loop around.

Finally, southbound I-25 drivers trying to exit onto northbound South Academy will turn on B Street, then continue to Magrath Avenue and reenter South Academy.

Other intermittent closures could affect two ramps at South Academy and I-25.

• Monday, June 30, 6 p.m. to 4:30 a.m.

The two ramps are: southbound I-25 off-ramp to westbound South Academy and the northbound I-25 on-ramp from northbound South Academy.

Drivers trying to enter northbound I-25 from northbound South Academy will need to keep going to US 85/87 and loop around to enter I-25 north.

Drivers trying to exit southbound I-25 to westbound South Academy Boulevard will need to drive another 200 feet and make a “hard right” at the intersection, according to CDOT.

Manitou Avenue

An emergency sewer line repair at the intersection of Manitou Avenue and Crystal Park is wrapping up Friday, with roadway restoration expected over the weekend.

According to the city of Manitou Springs, paving and surface repairs will likely be completed by Monday, July 7.

The city said emergency repairs to aging utility lines required 24/7 work over the past two weeks.

Crystal Park Road remains closed at the intersection from Poplar Place to Manitou Avenue. Manitou Avenue drivers can expect alternating, shifting lane closures.
