Suspect killed in officer-involved shooting in southeast Colorado Springs

Driver identified in fatal car crash on May 14 in Colorado Springs

On Monday, two Colorado Springs Police Department officers were involved in a shooting near the 1400 block of Michelle Court. Police say the officers were uninjured in the incident and the suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.

Around 1 a.m., officers responded to a shots fired call . Once they arrived on scene, they found Jesus Ramirez Jr., 51, allegedly holding a gun, and the officers ordered him to drop the weapon. Police say that Ramirez then fired in their direction and the officers returned fire. No injuries were sustained other than Ramirez’s, according to the department.

As per department policy, both officers involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave.

As per required by Colorado law, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office will lead an investigation into the incident. Body-cam footage of the shooting will be released within 21 days, after witness interviews have been conducted, according to the department.
