Colorado Springs police on Saturday made an arrest following a domestic disturbance in which a man allegedly poured gasoline inside a home and threatened to burn it down.

Carlos Garcia-Rivera, 36, is being held without bail at the El Paso County jail, police said. He faces charges related to arson and criminal mischief.

At about 5:30 p.m. Saturday, officers responded to a call about a domestic incident at a residence in the 7700 block of Orange Sunset Drive, near Marksheffel Road and Stetson Hills Boulevard, officials said.

The victim told police that her husband had sent her a video of himself pouring gasoline in the living room of their home and threatening to set it on fire. When she arrived at the house, she reportedly saw Garcia-Rivera standing at the window holding a lighter.

While the victim was speaking with officers, Garcia-Rivera texted her a picture of himself sitting in his truck with a pistol in his lap, police said.

When officers arrived at the house, Garcia-Rivera initially refused to come out, but eventually surrendered without further incident. After checking the home, police deemed it “uninhabitable” because of the amount of gas fumes inside. Utilities were disconnected to avoid a spark that might cause combustion.
