El Paso County sheriff’s deputies arrested a man who was having a mental health episode outside Peterson Space Force Base’s west gate Thursday.

The man was detained and placed on a mental health hold, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.

Space Force Base Delta 1 locked down Peterson and Schriever Space Force Bases about 11:30 a.m. in response to the threat, the delta said in a statement.

“Out of an abundance of caution and in accordance with established protocols, these measures were taken to ensure the safety and security of our personnel and mission,” the base said in a statement.
