Tamara Schwarz has been recognized with a national Daily Point of Light Award for her dedication to creating a fully inclusive community park which serves thousands of families in the Monument area.

The award, presented by Points of Light, a global nonprofit founded by former President George H.W. Bush, honors individuals who create meaningful change through volunteer service. Schwarz is the 8,056th recipient of the award for her work leading the development of Trinity Community Park.

What started as a dream three years ago has grown into one of the region’s most inclusive and accessible parks. Trinity Community Park now serves more than 13,500 families, including over 3,000 with a loved one who has a disability.

Schwarz has led the project as executive director, managing everything from researching contractors to writing grant proposals. To date, she has raised over $600,000 in donations and grant funding. She continues to expand the park with new features based on community feedback.

“When people with different abilities play together in the same spaces, there’s education and awareness that naturally happens,” she said. “It makes people more empathetic.”

Often working more than 50 hours a week on the project, Schwarz organizes volunteer build days, coordinates scout and community service projects, and partners with local sponsors. She also regularly speaks at events to advocate for inclusive spaces.

“This award needs to be shared with everyone who has volunteered, donated, or been part of this journey,” she said.

Schwarz was also recognized in 2024 with KOAA’s Jefferson Award for public service. But for her, the mission is personal and ongoing.

“The biggest thing is listening to the community; what they are wanting and needing,” she said.
