On Wednesday, four Colorado Springs firefighters and two American Medical Response personnel delivered a baby girl.

The Colorado Springs Fire Department responded to the Cheyenne Mountain area to a call of a woman in labor.

Calls from families for emergency deliveries are common — expecting parents call thinking they do not have enough time to get to a local hospital. But typically first responders are able to transport expecting mothers before delivery, said Ashley Franco, Fire Department spokesperson.

Having the opportunity to deliver a baby is “something special,” Franco said.

The baby was born healthy and was taken to a local hospital with her parents for care.

Franco added that one of the first responders, firefighter and paramedic Erin Beary, found the moment special as it reminded her of the birth of her own children.
