Suspect in Colorado Springs shooting death held in California

An arrest warrant for Brendan Briggs, 25, was obtained in connection with a shooting death in May 2024, according to news release Tuesday from Colorado Springs police.

On May 1, 2024, Paul Cordova was shot and killed near Interstate 25 and South Nevada Avenue.

Briggs is suspected of killing Cordova, but he is being held in the California Department of Corrections on unrelated charges.

On March 20, 2024, California investigators secured a warrant for Briggs’ arrest for the attempted murder of his stepfather and gun charges. Briggs was arrested May 12, 2025, and is being held in the California Avenal State Prison, according to KCRA-TV in Sacramento.

Briggs was also arrested in 2022 for attempted murder and gang activity for his connection to a shooting in Merced, Calif., according to reports.

Briggs has yet to face charges or extradition for Cordova’s death, Colorado Springs police said.
