Man found and arrested connected to April car theft in Rockrimmon neighborhood
A man driving a stolen car was followed by police officers to a store where he shoplifted $80 worth of merchandise, according to the Colorado Springs Police Department.
The department online blotter reports that police spotted a vehicle that had been reported stolen,around 8:15 p.m. on Tuesday night in the intersection of East Pikes Peak Avenue and University Drive. The vehicle had been reported stolen April 24 from the 800 block of Vindicator Drive near South Rockrimmon Boulevard.
Investigators followed the man seen with the stolen vehicle, and followed him to the Walmart at 1622 South Academy Blvd.
Jeremiah Smith, 26, walked inside the store and allegedly stole $80 worth of items before being detained by police officers.
Smith is facing charges for motor vehicle theft and petty theft. His next court date is Friday.
