Man arrested, woman identified in fatal shooting Tuesday in west Colorado Springs
New details have emerged in a fatal shooting Tuesday at an apartment complex on the west side of Colorado Springs, involving a man who allegedly told his father and employer that he had shot his girlfriend.
At about 11:30 a.m. police responded to a burglary call at the Mountain Shadows Apartments located at 1015 Fontmore Road and found a woman dead on scene with one gunshot wound.
According to the arrest affidavit obtained by The Gazette, 34-year-old Lisa West was found inside the apartment. According to the apartment leasing office, her boyfriend Kevin Wells, 36, was listed on the lease agreement.
Officers received a call from Wells at about 11:30 a.m. indicating someone was trying to break into his apartment and he was not home, but his girlfriend was inside.
Police received a call from Wells’ father around 12 p.m. who told them his son called him to say he shot his girlfriend. He said Wells told him they got into an argument in which she hit him, and subsequently, he shot her. He told officers he told his son to turn himself in and he hung up on him.
Officers received another call from Wells’ boss at 1:15 p.m. indicating Wells texted him that he shot his girlfriend.
Police tracked Wells’ phone to south Pueblo and the Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office took him into custody around 4:30 p.m.
He was later transferred to the El Paso County jail where he is being held on a no-bond hold. Wells has court appearances scheduled at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday and 8:30 a.m. May 22.
