A Colorado Department of Corrections employee who is suspected of attempted murder in a road rage case was arrested Friday after turning himself in, according to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office.

Loyd Dewees, 48, allegedly pulled in front of another driver and brake-checked their car on northbound Colorado 115 on Dec. 11. Dewees continued to drive his vehicle aggressively, pulling alongside the victim before a loud bang was heard from a shot being fired through the car door. The shot narrowly missed the driver, police said.

The suspect fled the scene in his vehicle and entered Fort Carson through Gate 5.

On Thursday, an arrest warrant was issued for attempted second-degree murder, illegal discharge of a firearm, felony menacing, and prohibited use of a weapon.

Dewees is being held at the El Paso County jail on a $50,000 bond.
